Keeping an eye on the red menace.

Local Presences

Democratic Socialists of Somerville, Massachusetts

Posted on September 12, 2018

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) are a Marxist-Leninist party. They’re literal communists, no caveats, no subtle differences, no points of clarification. They unironically call each other “comrades” and talk about “challenging capitalism” on their organizing page.

Note the section about abolishing prisons. This is the warm, fuzzy, friendly socialism that only exists before the party gets into power. Once they do, and they abolish everything that gives them a frowny face, such as prisons, markets, and property ownership, reality gives them a swift kick to the cheeks and they drop the nice guy agenda. This is when you get real socialism. Mustachioed, secret police, gulag socialism.

Electoral Successes

This kooky party, seemingly something to be laughed at and forgotten, is anything but. They are winning local office in far-left strongholds across the country. In this post, we discuss one: Somerville, MA.

Democratic Socialists run as Democrats or independents. Today’s Democratic party is quite hospitable to socialists, for those who are out of the loop, and will only become more so in the foreseeable future. While they can’t reliably win federal office yet, they are winning local office in leftist states and will progress to running for state and federal office.

Currently, Somerville’s Board of Aldermen has a strong socialist presence. 45% of Somerville’s aldermen are socialists. Here’s the list:

Jesse Clingan, interestingly, does not list his DSA endorsement on his campaign website’s endorsements page. Might he consider their ideology to be abhorrent and dystopian, and, by extension, realize the same about his own policies that earned him their endorsement?

Will Mbah, At-Large, endorsed by DSA

Will Mbah is possibly the most forgivable of the people on this list, given his past life circumstances. He is far from a champagne socialist. Nevertheless, given the DSA endorsement, chances are strong his politics would transform a country where the poor need worry more about obesity than starvation into one where millions starve.

Furthermore, Will Mbah is the Democratic Diversity Chair for Somerville. Occupying an office with that title, there’s a high likelihood he’s a race Marxist.

Matthew McLaughlin, Ward 1

Whereas, unlike the above, Matthew McLaughlin is not a member of the DSA and was not endorsed by them, he’s sufficiently connected to socialists to be invited to their events. The issues listed on his campaign site echo those listed on DSA member Ben Ewen-Campen’s. It would not be a surprise if he were to form a coalition with the socialists on Somerville’s Board of Aldermen.

Somerville Socialist Republic

If you live in Somerville, you understand by now that you are ruled by socialists. So, what are you going to do about it? Reporting Marxist activity would be a good start.

If you really want to make a dent, though, spread awareness of this reality. Distribute flyers, share this page, and sign up for our newsletter when you make your first report or contact us to join now.

Socialism will not be defeated by inaction. The red menace is real. If all it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing, then you’d better do something today!
