Democratic Socialist of Boston: Alex Golonka
If you’ve read our post on the Democratic Socialists of America control of Somerville, then you’ll be familiar with the DSA. The DSA, following their strategy of running for local office to control municipalities, have also run a candidate for Boston City Council: Alex Golonka.
Mr. Golonka is a DSA member, has been a DSA-endorsed candidate for the Boston City Council, and appears to be a violent Antifa-aligned activist.
Boston City Council
Alex Golonka ran for Boston City Council in District 9 in 2017. He was endorsed by the Boston DSA. Thankfully, he didn’t get past the primary. However, he did get about 17.5% of the vote.
Understanding the DSA’s strategy for taking control at the lowest levels, this is cause for awareness. This poll result represents progress for the socialists. Golonka was endorsed by the DSA, but he was not given their full support in the form of volunteers aiding his campaign. So this 17.5% result is a low water mark; next time around, when their Somerville aldermen are incumbents and don’t need as much help, what will Golonka score with the full support of the DSA behind him?
While Alex Golonka’s primary association is with the DSA, Antifa is an umbrella group that any socialist can become a part of for the purpose of engaging in political violence with impunity. In addition to facial coverings, Antifa typically appears in large numbers exceeding police organizations’ capacity to manage, facilitating the use of violence with a reduced risk of legal consequences.
It has been reported by patriotic activists that Golonka is a regular at events where Antifa is present, whether or not the DSA has a distinct presence. Particularly in the Providence conflict, there is video evidence of a man in a black tank top actively involving himself in violent altercations. This man strongly resembles Mr. Golonka. We invite you to judge for yourself:
Boston City Council
Lydia Edwards also ran for Boston City Council in District 1 in 2017. While she was not a DSA member, she was endorsed by the DSA, and received the DSA’s full support unlike Alex Golonka. That’s right, Lydia Edwards can at least partially credit her victory in District 1 to DSA volunteers knocking on doors promoting her candidacy.
She may not be a DSA member, but to garner this much support from a Marxist-Leninist party, it’s reasonable to conclude her policies are at least socialist-friendly. Wake up, Boston, lest your city become ruled by socialists like Somerville.
If you live in Boston, and you don’t want to be ruled by socialists, what is there to do? Reporting Marxist activity would be a good start.
If you really want to make a dent, though, spread awareness of this reality. Distribute flyers, share this page, and sign up for our newsletter when you make your first report or contact us to join now.
Socialism will not be defeated by inaction. The red menace is real. If all it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing, then you’d better do something today!
